AAP Letter Regarding "FRIENDS OF CHILDREN DISASTER RELIEF FUND" (JAPAN)

To my family, friends, and colleagues,

Thank you for all the inquiries about my family and friends and concern about the tragedy that has affected Japan.  It truly saddens me to see the country that I love so much dealing with such a tragic situation. The AAP has already sent a letter to the President of the Japanese Pediatric Society (JPS).  Another Japanese pediatrician @ UCSF and myself have been involved with communicating with our colleagues in Japan. Please consider donating to the AAP Friends of Family - Disaster Relief Fund.  (Please see the message that follows.)  There will be much need for the children as well as their families and the AAP is poised to work with JPS.  I will continue to also be involved. Times like this make one realize how much our family and friends mean to us in life.
Thank you so much.

Yasuko

Dear AAP Member and Friends:

Because of YOUR support, the AAP has been there to provide financial support to our fellow pediatricians and the children they treat in New Orleans, Indonesia, Haiti, Chile, and Pakistan.

The Friends of Children Disaster Relief Fund is now evaluating how best to support pediatricians and the children they treat in Japan and impacted areas.

With all relief efforts both today and in the future, we want to do even more. Help us grow and expand this fund.

It is too early to know the estimated number of lives that have been impacted by the earthquake, tsunami, and fires in Japan. Judging by the pictures on the television today, we can only guess that it will be significant and the recovery will take years.

Your gift and pledges made today to the Friends of Children Disaster Relief Fund* will help us both now and in the future. You can make your donations online at the Friends of Children Fund donation page: www.aap.org/donate/fcfdonate.htm. Or you can send your gift to:

When making your gift, please direct your gift to "Friends of Children Disaster Relief Fund."

Sincerely,

* Support of the Friends of Children Disaster Relief Fund is used to support pediatricians and the children they treat as a result of a natural or man-made disaster both nationally and internationally. These funds can also be used to support AAP led efforts to better train and prepare communities, regions, and countries to respond to future disasters. To make the best and most impactful use of donated funds, the AAP works to coordinate efforts with the regional, local, or country-specific professional pediatric societies in their disaster recovery and preparedness efforts. If the donors target a specific disaster, these funds are used as directed. If after 12 months, more funds were raised for a specific disaster than requested by the affected area, the remaining funds are transferred into the general Disaster Relief Fund to be used for future disaster and disaster preparedness events. Please call 847/434-4740 if you have additional questions.

Your gift to the AAP Friends of Children Fund is tax deductible as allowed by law.
